Jon Solinger at Township Historian Program
April 11th @ 6 pm - 9 pm
The Otter Tail County Historical Society’s Township Historian program is Thursday, April 11, at the Ottertail Community Center. A potluck dinner begins at 6pm followed by a presentation from Jon Solinger. Please bring a dish to share.
Solinger resides in Lida Township where he is the third generation owner of Solinger’s Resort on Lake Lida. In addition to running the family resort, he is an accomplished photographer who has exhibited regionally including the North Dakota Museum of Art, the Rourke Art Museum, Plains Art Museum, and galleries in Minneapolis, Fargo and Fergus Falls.
He will give a presentation on his latest photography and book project entitled "Working Land". This project explores rural life and landscapes, exploring how human labor transforms the land, and in turn, how the land shapes the life of the worker. As part of his program, Solinger will offer ideas for using photographs, hand-drawn maps and diagrams to collect histories of people and places close to home, treating often overlooked stories of everyday life as worthy of preservation.
The Township Historian project is an effort to engage individuals throughout Otter Tail County to identify and preserve local historical landmarks, stories and artifacts. It’s seminal work was the publication of "Rural Schools of Otter Tail County".
The April 11 potluck and program is free and open to the public. For more information contact OTCHS at 218-736-6038.
