Feeding Birds in the Winter

Minnesota Department of Natural Resources offers tips for winter bird feeding.

As the seasons change, so should your composition of bird foods offered and the arrangement of your feeders. This aids in the bird's survival and will increase your viewing pleasure in the cold months ahead.

Winter feeds should include large and small seeds and suet. A mix of sunflower seeds, millet and peanuts will attract a wider array of birds both permanent and exotic. Many wintering birds benefit from the high energy nutritional content of suet, suet mixes, and peanut butter.
