Anoka - The Halloween Capital of the WORLD

Minnesota boasts countless reasons to call this state great.

Did you know we also house the Halloween Capital of the World? Anoka, MN created the first footprint on Halloween in the United States in 1920. The city first used a celebration to distract the pranksters that stirred during this season, and its success made this tradition stick with ferocity. Anoka is still going as hard as ever for Halloween nearly 100 years later.

During the month of October, you will find a slew of different Halloween activities throughout the city: seasonal painting events around town, family activities like their annual Pumpkin Bowl which combines football season with spooky season, their Orange Tie Ball with yearly themes to get you in the creepy mood, city-wide pumpkin carving, house decorating and costume contests, scavenger hunts, the annual Gray Ghost 5k, honoring a local veterinarian and award-winning athlete, that approximately 1500-2000 runners compete in every year, their annual parade featuring floats from across the Midwest, and so much more.

If Halloween is YOUR holiday, you have to make your way to the Halloween Capital of the World, because how convenient is it that we get to live in its mother state?

Stay spooky, friends.
