Show some love to your local nonprofits

Valentine's Day, which always falls on Feb. 14, is traditionally a holiday intended for showering affection on your loved ones, friends, classmates and occasionally, even coworkers.

Britton Ramsey of Health Resources, Melissa Crow of Compassion House, DelRae Chivers of Lakes Crisis & Resource Center, Nancy Fischer of Friends of Tamarac and Daneen Bellefeuille of Becker County DAC gathered at La Barista recently to discuss planning for this year's Giving Hearts Day, which falls on Thursday, Feb. 14. This year, however, it also offers an opportunity to "show the the love" to some of your favorite local nonprofits.

Together with hundreds of other nonprofit organizations in North Dakota and western Minnesota, 10 local nonprofits will be participating in today's Giving Hearts Day (GHD). Now in its 12th year, Giving Hearts Day is a 24-hour online fundraising event hosted by Dakota Medical Foundation and Impact Institute of Fargo. Contributions of $10 or more will be matched by DMF and/or other generous donors.

Local participants A Place to Belong, American Cancer Society, Becker County Developmental Achievement Center, Boys & Girls Club of Detroit Lakes, Compassion House, Essentia Health St. Mary's Foundation, Friends of Tamarac, Health Resources, Lakes Crisis & Resource Center and Minnesota Flyers Gymnastics are excited to participate in the event and share their missions with local supporters during this special fundraising campaign.

"Donations must be a minimum of $10," says Daneen Bellefeuille of A Place to Belong.

"And to participate, each nonprofit is responsible for securing its own match," added DelRae Chivers of Lakes Crisis & Resource Center

"The minimum match is $4,000," added Nancy Fischer of the Friends of Tamarac — though not all of the match has to come from a single donor, she added.
