Phelps Mill Foundation repairs will take place
Otter Tail County Commissioners have reiterated their pledge to do what needs to be done to complete a Phelps Mill foundation repair project.
The county plans to apply for project funding from the Minnesota State Historical Society. A final review, after work plans are completed, must come from the Minnesota State Historic Preservation Office.
"Floor beam replacement and other repairs are necessary at Phelps Mill," said Otter Tail County Public Works Director Rick West.
Located in Maine Township in central Otter Tail County, the mill was constructed in 1889 and was operational well into the 1900s. The county purchased the mill and surrounding land as a recreational site in 1965.
County commissioners said at a meeting on Feb. 12 that the board is appreciative of county residents who support the Phelps Mill foundation repair project.
"We want to complete this project sooner than later," noted Commissioner Wayne Johnson. "That being said, there's still lots of work to be done."
