Starship was originally formed in 1984 in San Francisco by band members Grace Slick, Craig Chaquico, David Freiberg, Pete Sears, Donny Baldwin and Mickey Thomas. Starship immediately became a staple in pop culture, quickly rising to the top of Billboard's Hot 100 chart with the band's first No. 1 gold-certified hit, "We Built This City," in 1985. Shortly after, the band released their first platinum-certified album, "Knee Deep in the Hoopla," which charted in the Top 10 and spawned their second No. 1 song of 1985, "Sara."
Starship later recorded their song, "Nothing's Gonna Stop Us Now," for the movie, "Mannequin," and released it as a single in 1987, topping Billboard charts at No.1 for a third time. Later in 1987, the band had climbed back into the Top 10 with another single, "It's Not Over ('Til It's Over)." This led to the release of their sophomore album, "No Protection," which was certified gold and landed in the Top 12 in 1987.
Since the start of their success, Starship's music has been featured on numerous movie soundtracks, including "Rock of Ages," "Guardians of the Galaxy," and "Skeleton Twins." The band's music was also featured in the hit television series, "Glee." Starship is currently touring the United States, performing 35 years of hits, as well as songs from their most recent album, "Loveless Fascination."
